If you are looking for a unique and affordable sailing experience, Croatia is the right choice for you. With its indented coastline, magnificent beaches and interesting old towns, Croatia is a real hidden gem of the Mediterranean. If you are looking for a yacht week in Croatia, here is our list of destinations you shouldn’t miss:

Split

The town that was once under the rule of Emperor Diocletian is nowadays one of the most popular tourist destinations in Europe. It is also one of the main international party animals’ spots of gathering since the famous Ultra Europe Music Festival took place here. It is the biggest city in Dalmatia, a region famous for its rich history which is still clearly visible in town’s architecture. Split is well-known for its splendid Diocletian Palace which was built in the III century. The palace is actually the nucleus from which the whole Split emerged. It is not only an exquisite antique monument but also a national and global cultural attraction that was listed on the Unesco World Heritage List.

Hvar

Another place you cannot miss when sailing the Croatian seas is definitely Hvar island. Endless lavender fields, ancient olive trees, crystal-clear sea, long history, rich cultural treasure, the harmony of man and nature – it makes Hvar the ideal place under the Sun, which, in this region, shines an incredible 2764 hours per year! Even the ancient mariners were spreading tales of the scent of its pines, which, mixed with saltwater on a light breeze, cannot be felt anywhere else in the world.

Vis

The attractions of island Vis are predominately natural: unpolluted sea, earth, and air. On the south side of the island, the waves created some of the most beautiful caves and beaches. One of them is the Stiniva Cove, very popular on Croatian promotional posters. Besides fishing, the second industry that prevails on the island is wine production. In Vis island, they make a special brandy Lozovača, which is used as a medicine. Considering its distance from the mainland, people who visit Vis usually look for a quiet vacation, isolation and mild nature.

Dubrovnik

Dubrovnik is for the majority of foreign tourists the most popular Croatian town. Apart from its historic heritage and natural beauties, Dubrovnik became immensely popular as a Game of Thrones filming location. It attracted photo-hungry tourists from all around the world, which reached the number of 1 million in 2017. The center of the old town nucleus is Stradun street, the most street in Dubrovnik on which you can sip your coffee and watch the hordes of people around you. Another site you mustn’t miss if you are a Game of Thrones fan is the Lovrijenac fortress that rises above the town. Many scenes from a popular tv show are filmed exactly here and also, numerous play performances take place at the fortress.

Zadar

Last but not least on our list is Zadar, a city which is believed to be the center of fun on the Adriatic coast.

Zadar is a city that has a lot to offer to those who are looking for historic attractions and rich tradition, and those who seek modern, trendy places. The coast around town is very indented with a lot of islands, bays, and inlets. There are a couple of harbors which make Zadar a coastal center, and in the town itself, there is a harbor that connects it to Italy. In the old town there are plenty of cultural monuments as well as cafes and restaurants in which you can try special local cuisine.
